Installation at Oakland Art Museum

This is an installation I created for Day of the Dead at the Oakland Museum of Art. I asked volunteers to send me hand-made flowers and birds from recycled materials. I received hundreds of pieces! The coal circle represents pollution. The flowers and birds are dead and gray towards the center, and become brighter further away from the coal circle. There was an audible sound loop that had bird song and machinery noise recorded in my neighborhood. This scene was inspired by a morning in polluted Mexico City where hundreds of birds died and were scattered on the sidewalks.
